My mission as a franchise and licensing consultant is to ensure there are no ordinary businesses - only extraordinary ones

Being ‘ordinary’ just doesn’t cut it in today’s business world

Real expertise. Real experience. Real results.

There are an awful lot of ordinary businesses, products and services out there, most of them not making any money or on the way out.

In today’s hyper-competitive business world, being good enough is no longer good enough. Being different is no longer good enough. Even being better is no longer good enough.

Today, to be truly successful, you must be extraordinary in a way that matters to your customers.

Being ordinary is the biggest cause of business failure. No Ordinary Businesses and Franchises help businesses become extraordinary - and successful.

Product licensing and business scaling expertise

born from real experience

Robin and Margaret La Pere celebrating the 40th anniversary of our client, Signature Homes franchising

My name is Robin La Pere. That’s me on the right in the photo, taken when my wife and business partner Margaret were special guests at one of our clients' 40th Anniversary celebrations.

What makes me different from some other business and franchise consultants is that I don’t just have business qualifications (mine are at MBA level). I’ve also run businesses and franchises, led teams, launched new products and services, and started and grown my own businesses and franchises.

Which means I understand exactly what you’re going through as a business owner or franchisor.

Real-world strategies and solutions, not just theories

You’ll find that my having real-world business scaling and franchise experience makes a real difference to the strategic planning, support and coaching I am able to offer you. I’ll be able to relate to your needs because I’ve ‘been there and done that’. And I’ll help you with workable solutions, not just theories.

Real world strategies. Workable solutions. Not just theories.
I don’t reinvent the wheel, but
I sometimes reinvent business models
I don't reinvent the wheel when it comes to franchising your business or licensing your product. That saves time and money. But I am an expert at reinventing business models and strategies to revitalise stalling businesses.

What’s more, I understand how important time and cost are to you. I don’t believe in reinventing the wheel. If you need a strategy similar to one that’s worked for me before, I won’t tell you I’ve developed it from scratch. If you need a document that only needs to be tailored to your needs from a template I’ve already developed, I won’t tell you I started with a blank sheet of paper. It’s about trust. It’s about value. And it’s about making a positive, meaningful difference in your business without wasting time.

How I can help you build, grow or scale your business

I look at every client’s business as though it’s my own. It’s important that you see me not just as a consultant, but as a kind of partner in the success of your business.

Having said that, I’m happy to start working with you on just one project, no matter how small or large, so we can get to know each other better. Then if you’re happy with the results and there’s something else I can do to add value, let’s keep working together.

I wouldn’t call myself a jack of all trades but I am a master when it comes to providing business strategy, innovation, improvement, marketing and franchising services and support for your business.

I am an expert in strategy, innovation, business improvement, marketing, franchising and product licensing.

Affordable, risk-free consulting and coaching services

When working with a consultant to improve, grow or scale your business, there shouldn’t be any risk. That’s why I always start with a free Initial Consultation so we can get to know each other and decide whether we want to work with one another.

Once I understand a little more about you and your business, and the problem you want to solve, I’ll provide you with an upfront price estimate, in writing, for my services to help you solve the problem.

I’ll also give you a guarantee, in writing, that if for any reason you’re not satisfied with the solution, I’ll go the extra mile to make sure you’re 100% satisfied. At no cost to you. What could be easier?

It helps that I am based at the centre of the world

I am based in Auckland, New Zealand. New Zealand, of course, is at the centre (US: center) of the world, making it supremely easy for me to support my clients worldwide.

Using Zoom, Whatsapp, email and any kind of media you work with, I communicate with clients throughout the world and have a network of global contacts available to provide you with local service if required.

I also travel frequently to visit my clients in person and to provide my services wherever they are required.

CAREER ACHIVEMENTS

My experience and the results I’ve achieved for my clients

You’ll notice that my career has spanned advertising, teaching, marketing, strategic leadership and franchising. That range of experience isn’t accidental—it’s what makes my perspective uniquely valuable to the businesses I work with.

I’ve mastered each discipline not for its own sake, but to bring a sharper, more integrated approach to solving real-world challenges. My clients don’t just get advice—they gain a partner who knows how to turn strategy into action, and action into sustainable growth.

Advertising Copywriter at Doyle Dane Bernbach (DDB)
Creating for one of the world's biggest and most famous ad agencies

At 18, I cut my teeth at DDB, one of the world's largest advertising agencies, as a Trainee Copywriter. Five years later, I came back as a Senior Copywriter working with some of the best in the business doing great TV, radio, magazine and other media work for great clients, including American Express, Panasonic and Singapore Airlines.

Leading the way in a whole
new world of marketing

Team Direct was one of a ground-breaking new breed of direct marketing agencies. One of my most satisfying achievements was producing direct marketing cam-paigns for charities such as the Red Cross, Cancer Society, National Heart Foundation and CCS Disability which brought in record donations.

Teaching: The ultimate leadership and team building bootcamp

I had always wanted to be a teacher, and I maintain that if you can manage and engage a classroom full of teenagers, running conferences, workshops, training sessions and speaking events will be a walk in the park. The leadership, communication and interpersonal skills I learned as a teacher have been the foundation of my career as a business leader, consultant, coach and speaker.

General Manager for a group of shopping centres and retail developments across New Zealand
Where my strategy and management journey began

While I was involved on the creative side of marketing, I became fascinated by the bigger picture and business strategy before the campaign brief was even written. So when Urban Partners offered me a role overseeing the management and marketing of multiple shopping centres, I saw strategy as the next level of challenge I was looking for.

Taking brand management and marketing to the next level

Having assisted Urban Partners to raise overall sales across their retail portfolio by 15%, despite a recession,  I made the decision to take on a senior marketing role, giving me the opportunity to lead a major bank's branding, marketing and customer engagement strategies on a national scale and the Visa Marketing Committee on an international scale.

From marketing to executive leadership in Hong Kong

One of the largest property companies in Asia, Sino Group employed me as Marketing Manager before asking me to step up as General Manager of 3,500 employees. During my time in Hong Kong, I worked with leading US-based global architecture firm RTKL on retail property re-development and won the Hong Kong Christmas Lighting Award.

Building brands through events and sponsorship

As the marketing consultant for Auckland's most prestigious seaside cafe precinct, The Promenade Mission Bay, I arranged the sponsorship and marketing for the organisers of what became the largest event of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, the Mission Bay Jazz & Blues Streetfest, which attracted more than 100,000 people.

Broadening my marketing experience into FMCG and sales

To expand my marketing expertise beyond property, retail and banking, I accepted a contract as Acting Group Marketing Manager for leading liquor brands like Jim Beam, Bacardi, Coruba and Grant’s Whisky. gave me valuable FMCG experience. I also led the rebrand and sales of a commercial interior design firm, 10Xing its project portfolio and positioning it as an industry leader.

Where I earned my real-world 'masters degree' in franchising

My interest in business strategy and systems led me to join Fletcher Building—then New Zealand’s largest company—as National Franchise Manager. I led a national franchise system and participated in a Franchising Best Practice Study Tour, meeting senior executives at McDonald’s, Ford, Caterpillar and other global leaders to uncover what made them world-class.

Combining passion with purpose to achieve scalable, sustainable growth

After travelling the world and adopting a family, I discovered my true passion—working alongside inventors, innovators and business owners to help bring their ideas and visions to life. As a Franchise and Business Growth Consultant, I became a specialist in helping small to medium enterprises scale responsibily and with purpose—whether through franchising, licensing, strategic partnerships or simply smarter systems.

From local to national — franchising

made fast, smart and affordable

With a little initial help from me, Hell Pizza went from three stores to 70 nationwide — and now it's the biggest pizza group in New Zealand after Domino's and Pizza Hut. I was asked to re-engineer the franchise model of a struggling home building franchise and now Signature Homes is the largest Kiwi-owned home building company. And I grew my own franchise into the first nationwide specialist renovation franchise!

I am an expert in product, services and intellectual property licensing.
Real-world licensing expertise—from global brands to startups

I’ve been helping businesses unlock growth through licensing for decades—starting in retail and property management and the Visa Marketing Committee, and later working with brands as diverse as bubble tea and agritech. Whether it’s licensing IP, products or brand assets, I help clients structure smarter deals, protect their rights and scale faster with less risk.
